Poetry & Pop
Henri Seger is a young singer-songwriter who will publish his debut album this autumn. Henri plays mostly his own songs but spices things up sometimes with sublime covers of David Bowie or Eliot Smith. Despite his young age, Henri truly has found his own unique voice.

Henriikka Tavi (1978) has published two collections. Her first collection Esim. Esa (2007) was a critically acclaimed success, and earlier this year Tavi published her second book Sanakirja. Besides poetry Tavi has translated Friedrich Schiller and some children’s books into Finnish.

Sirpa Kyyrönen (1978) has been a central figure of Nihil Interit poetry association for years and her work has been published in magazines such as Parnasso, Nuori Voima and Tuli&Savu. In mid-September Otava will publish Kyyrönen’s debut Naispatsaita.

Alustajina kirkon ulkomaanavun erityisasiantuntija, psykoterapeutti Päivi Muma ja Lähi-idän asiantuntija, dosentti Pertti Multanen. Heidän lisäkseen saamme vieraaksemme Jamil Attin, Gazan Mind and Body Medicine Centerin johtajan, joka toimi Päivi Muman työparina 2009 ja tulee Suomeen Kirkon ulkolmaanavun kutsumana. (Jamilin tulo riippuu Rafan rajan aukioloajoista, mutta viisumi hänelle on jo myönnetty).
Päivi Muma on hiljattain palannut Gazasta. Hän on psykiatrinen sairaanhoitaja, psykoterapeutti, johtamisen ja kriisityön kysymyksiin perehtynyt terveystieteen maisteri.
Gazassa Muman vetämiin koulutuksiin osallistui 17 gazalaista sairaanhoitajaa, sosiaalityöntekijää ja psykologian alan ammattilaista. Heistä on koulutettu ohjaajia, jotka vievät työpaikoilleen oppimiaan menetelmiä psyykkisestä ensiavusta, psykososiaalisesta työstä ja lasten henkisen kehityksen edistämisestä.
Kirkon ulkomaanavun järjestämään jälkipuintiin tammikuun sodan jälkeen osallistui 120 henkilökunnan jäsentä viidestä eri organisaatiosta.
Dosentti Pertti Multanen, johtava Lähi-idän ja arabimaiden historian, kansainvälisten suhteiden historian ja yleisten kehitysmaakysymysten asiantuntija pohdiskelee kanssamme mm. Hamasin roolia Lähi-idän konfliktissa. Multanen on myös erityisasiantuntija Etelä ? Pohjoinen problematiikassa.

Opening speakers will be Finn Church Aid expert, psychotherapist Päivi Muma ja Middle East expert, docent Pertti Multanen. Other visitor will be Jamil Attin, leader of Gaza Mind and Body Medicine Center, who was working together with Päivi Muma in 2009. Jamil is invited to Finland by Finn Church Aid (FCA) and although his visa is in order his participation depends on opening hours of Rafa border .
Päivi Muma has recently returned home from Gaza. She is psychiatric nurse, psychotherapist and master of health science specialized in leadership and crisis treatment. In Gaza she has conducted training to 17 Gazan nurses, social workers and professionals in psychology. Their role is to serve as tutors in psychical first aid, psychosocial help and furtherance of children’s mental health. The FCA organized after-care of January war had 120 participants from five different organizations.
Docent Pertti Multanen, the leading specialist in history of Middle East and Arab countries, history of international relationships and general topics of developing countries will join us in debate on role of Hamas in the Middle East conflict. Multanen is expert also in problematics between South and North.
Wednesday 8.9 at 6pm: Unteni Afrikka - Akseli G:n matka by Jan Blomstedt

Jan Blomstedt will be interviewed by filmmaker-photographer-writer Rax Rinnekangas. The public is also heartily invited to ask questions.
The event is exceptional and commemorates the 100th anniversary of Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s African journey.
The talk will be in Finnish but questions may be asked in Swedish and English.

Jan Blomstedt, a singular novelist and essayist who calls himself “an unestablished pick-pocket of established history”, is related to the Gallėn family through his grandmother. Lurra editions has now the pleasure of unveiling the hitherto unknown work of the young art-student Gallėn. This skilful copy of a mysterious Dutch portrait is presented on the cover of the book (www.lurraeditions.fi).

Bouqala eli Kohtalon kulho
on nimeltään alunperin algerialaisten naisten keksimä ennustusleikki. Runomuotoisissa näyissä voimme aavistaa ilon ja surun hetkiä, lähentymisiä ja etääntymisiä rakkaudesta.
Mohamed Kacimi on kääntänyt runoja ranskaksi ja Marja Nykänen ranskasta suomeksi.

Mohamed Kacimi on syntynyt ja viettänyt lapsuutensa El Hamelin sufi-yhteisössä Algeriassa. Hän on tämän hetken yksi Ranskan arvostetumpia teatterikäsikirjoittajia ja saanut mm. kirjailijaliiton vuoden palkinnot v. 2005 ja v. 2007. Hän on myös intohimoinen Raamutun tutkija ja lähi-idän matkaaja.
Juhlaviikot tuovat ensimmäistä kertaa Suomeen Mohamed Kacimin kirjoittaman näytelmän, théâtre d’illusian nukketeatterille sovittaman “Saaban kuningattaren” - Stoa 3.9.-5.9.
Marja Nykänen on ollut perustamassa nukketeatteri théâtre d’illusiaa v. 1997 ja on ohjannut Ranskassa kymmeniä nukketeatteriesitystä. Saaban kuningatar on hänen ensimmäinen Mohamed Kacimin tekstiin perustuva ohjauksensa.
Marja Nykänen ja Mohamed Kacimi valmistelevat parhaillaan yhdessä nukketeatteriversiota persialaisen Attarin Lintujen matkasta.

Poèmes de Bouqala
Créé à l’origine par les femmes d’Alger, le rituel de la bouqala est un jeu traditionnel de divination. Les poèmes récités peuvent éclairer la vie, l’amour, annoncer des départs, des joies ou des malheurs…
Mohamed Kacimi a traduit ces poèmes en français et Marja Nykänen en finnois. Marmoritrio revient à Arkadia le mardi 7.9 à 18h pour les présenter avec Marja Nykänen (poèmes en finnois) et une mise en musique par Mauri Saarikoski(violon) et Timo Seppänen(guitare).
Mohamed Kacimi est un auteur français né en Algérie à El Hamel, dans une zaouïa soufie.
Poète, romancier et surtout un auteur de théâtre, il est aussi passionné par la bible. Son texte “les énigmes de la reine de Saba” est mise en scène par Marja Nykänen et sera présenté à STOA du 3 au 5 septembre dans le cadre du Festival d’Helsinki- Helsingin Juhlaviikot, puis à Malmitalo le 11 septembre.
Marja Nykänen est marionnettiste et metteur en scène finlandaise qui vit en France depuis 20 ans. Fondatrice du théâtre d’Illusia, avec lequel elle a monté une dizaine de pièces depuis 13 ans, elle partage sa passion pour la poésie et la musique avec les deux musiciens de Marmoritrio depuis plus de 30 ans.

Anca Visdei
Née à Bucarest, Anca Visdei a écrit sa première pièce à l’âge de
quatorze ans. Premier livre édité et première pièce jouée à dix-neuf ans. Après
des études de mise en scène à l’Institut de Théâtre et de Cinématographie de
Bucarest, réfugiée politique en Suisse, elle passe ses examens de doctorat en
droit. Assistante à la chaire de droit international public à l’université de
Lausanne, elle entame un troisième cycle de criminologie et suit les cours de
théâtre de Véra Gregh.
Auteur et metteur en scène, établie aujourd’hui à Paris, elle a écrit une
trentaine de pièces, publiées et jouées en France et à l’étranger, récompensées par
de nombreux prix (voir rubrique Livres et Spectacles de son site :
www.ancavisdei.com .
La plupart de ses textes ont été mis en ondes par les radios
francophones. Elle écrit également du théâtre pour la jeunesse, des contes
(« Les petits contes cruels »), des nouvelles et des scénarios pour la
télévision et le cinéma.
Côté roman : « L’exil d’Alexandra » et « Je ne serai pas une femme
qui pleure » parus chez Actes Sud et « Confessions d’une séductrice » aux
éditions Favre.

Singer and song-writer Rebecca Clamp will enchant us once more with her songs!
Rebecca Clamp is known for her passionate and idiosyncratic piano playing and personal song lyrics that focus on the minutiae of life - often from a humorous or unusual viewpoint. Originally from Cambridge (UK) after six years here Rebecca now considers herself a Kallio girl, and many of her songs make reference to life in Helsinki.
Clamp’s way of performing is absolutely irresistible. Almost throughout the concert, she sits slightly sideways facing the audience, and instead of performing her songs to the listeners, she tells them like stories. Not a single audience member can turn their eyes from her.

Singer-songwriter and acoustic guitarist Lenny Pearl plays what he calls “sonic acoustic”, with the aim to not sound like traditional, acoustic guitar music. Lenny is known for writing original music about difficult themes (such as body image, jealousy, depression) and for his unconventional and sometimes dissonant chord structures and tunings. He is also known for interpreting female artists’ music (such as Tori Amos) from a male point of view.

Leonardon liikkuvan teatterin mekaniikat ja mysteerit
Leonardo da Vinci teki suuren elämäntyön teatterin parissa. Hän käsikirjoitti, ohjasi, puvusti, äänisuunnitteli, valosuunnitteli, lavasti useita teatteriesityksiä, karnevaalikulkueita, juhlia ja esiintyi eräänlaisena katunäyttelijänä ja mysteeriesitysten yllättäjänä julkisesti ja yksityisesti. Hän soitti ja lauloi Marsilio Ficinon Akatemian ”Orfisissa illoissa” Firenzessä ja kehitti keskiajalta periytyvää Maailmanteatteria eli Muistiteatteria.
Aikalaisille Leonardon teatterimekaniikka oli maaginen mysteeri, meille vain näyttö kaikkivoivan neron insinööritaidoista. Kun ihmiset näkivät silloin itseliikkuvan leijonan, kolmimetrisen itseliikkuvan ritarin, ensimmäisen automobiilin jonka avulla näyttelijä siirtyi automaattisesti näyttämöllä ja sieltä ulos, maagiset ja groteskit naamiot, liikkuvan näyttämön liikkuvasta katsomosta (jota varten Leonardo kehitti ensimmäisen kuulalaakerin), liikkuvan ja sykkivän tähtitaivaan, Orfeuksen nousun luolasta mystisten soittajaryhmien säestämänä, valo- ja värishowt, automaattiset soittimet ja muut teatteritekniikan ihmeet, he eivät uskoneet silmiään. Me sen sijaan uskomme hänen insinööritaitoihinsa ja luulemme hänen olleen vain mekaaninen vempainrakentaja. Mitä tiedämme hänen teatteritöistään? Olisiko Leonardolla jotain annettavaa nykyteatterille?

Leonardo´s Theatre of Movement and Mystery
Leonardo da Vinci was not only an artist and an engineer but also a very important innovator and reformer of the Renaissance Theatre and medieval World theatre. He produced, directed, planned the stage settings, costumes, lights and sounds and built several mechanical theatre devices and automatical music instruments for the theatre as well as for parties, mystery plays, court amusements, festive processions, private “Orphic” sessions at the Florentine Platonic Academy of Marsilio Ficino and the court of the king of France in Amboise. His mechanics were magical mysteries for his contemporary and not only masterpieces of mechanical engineering skill. Little is known generally about this but philosopher Pekka Hongisto will tell and demonstrate more. Has Leonardo anything to offer modern theatre?

Drawings in Ink
These drawings came together pretty quickly after some experiments with ink, which still is a fairly new technique to me. I had no specific theme in my mind while working. Later I noticed that there were some familiar themes to me such as yearning and death and the unexpected in life. I´d rather not try to analyze them for you. Many years ago I painted with acrylic, then had a long passive period, until I started to focus more on photography, and particularly on collage technique.
I was born and have spent the most of my life in Helsinki. In recent years I have worked in Art Museums as a protector of beauty (attendant, really).
Someone once said the best journey is looking out of the window. It could also well be going out for a walk.

Anna is a poet. She has written and composed the songs with her friend Veikki, who studies at the Sibelius Academy. Their songs are profound and beautiful and are accompanied by a sensitive acoustic guitar.

You are invited to a talk about religion and faith on Thursday 19.8 at 6pm. This is the first in a series of debates on religion organised by Pastor Arto Antturi and Terho Nikulainen, HuK.
“Why are some people strongly opposed to the Lutheran church in Finland?” is the question Pastor Arto Antturi from Helsinki Cathedral Parish and Jori Mäntysalo of Tampereen Vapaa-ajattelijat will try to answer. Terho Nikulainen will be the moderator.
The discussion will be conducted in Finnish but questions can be answered in English.

ARKADIA KESKUSTELEE USKOSTA.
Tarkoitus on kokoontua muutaman kerran vuodessa keskustelemaan uskonasioihin liittyvistä teemoista. Kaikki ovat tervetulleita, niin uskovat ja uskonnottomat kuin myös ateistit ja agnostikot, kirkkokuntien jäsenet, kirkon jäseniksi liittymättömät ja kirkosta eronneet.
Miksi Suomessa vastustetaan kirkkoa? Keskustelijoina pastori Arto Antturi, Helsingin Tuomiokirkkoseurakunta ja Jori Mäntysalo Tampereen Vapaa-ajattelijoista.
Kirkko on kauttaaltaan hyvää tekevä instituutio. Vapaa-ajattelijoiden liitto on kuitenkin kohdistanut kirkonvastaisen kampanjoinnin ja www.eroakirkosta.fi - sivustonsa Suomen kansankirkoksi nimettyyn luterilaiseen kirkkoon, jonka tärkeimpänä toiminta-ajatuksena kuten kirkkokuntien yleensäkin, on pitää yllä hengellistä sivistystä. Siellä missä hengellinen perussivistys katsotaan tarpeelliseksi, kirkon vastustamiselle ei ole rationaalista perustetta. Kirkon vastustamisen myötä sanotaan hyvästit länsimaiselle sivistykselle ja kyseenalaistetaan ihmisen hengellinen, sielullinen ja ruumillinen kokonaisuus.
