Dear friend of Arkadia,

You are heartily invited to a talk with Ukrainian civilian volunteer Anna Zaretskaya and journalist Oksana Chelysheva on Monday 27.7 at 5pm.

Text by Oksana Chelysheva:

Ukraine has been the land of suffering for more than a year. Despite Ukraine being in Europe, the conflict developing here is still one of the most difficult to understand. The number of IDPs is growing. The number of children traumatized by the war is growing. The number of people affected by the war is growing. What is not growing is the level of awareness of the reality civilians of Ukraine are enduring in the conflict areas. You are invited to meet one of Ukrainian volunteers and ask her questions. Anna Zaretskaya used to have a normal life before the war. But when the first shots were fired, she came to help the innocent. Anna participated in the evacuation of women and children from Slavyansk in summer last year. She is one of those civilian volunteers who have made a choice to bring help to those who have not taken to arms. Her choice has brought a lot of consequences upon her as in the war-torn mind of the society affected by the war, some may see refusal to help the army as unpatriotic. But Anna and the like don’t give up.

The talk will be in English and in Russian

All are most welcome to participate and are encouraged to express their opinion in full.

Warm regards,

Ian
