“Family Constellations: a gateway to a deeper self-knowledge” by Elina Mikkola

Since you are born you belong to a family, a system, that through time has developed it’s own way of loving, fiering, surviving, grieving and learning. Unconsciously we involve ourselves deeply in these behavioural patterns to a point where sometimes it is hard to see clearly what are the inherited thoughts and beliefs that mold our perception of the world and our actions.

So when you face problems in your personal life it’s not always enough to look at the personal history to find solutions to your problems. Sometimes the reasons for our difficulties lie deep in the depths of the family history or in events happened long before we were born that had a huge impact on the family’s common unconscious.

In this workshop we give the participant an opportunity to dive into their family system and to observe the patterns that repeat in their families throughout the years; the forgotten destinies, the secrets, the loyalties, and the family myths that trap and bond us deeply with what is and what has been.

What kind of behaviour is allowed in your family? What isn’t? Are you carrying someone else’s story with you? Are you taking someone else’s place? What do you need to do to follow your own heart even if it is against the family’s learned ways?

Created by Bert Hellinger, a German psychotherapist, Family Constellations draws on elements of family systems therapy, existential phenomenology, Zulu attitudes to family and Family Sculpting (Virginia Satir). Through a constellation it is possible to reveal previously unconscious and unrecognized  behaviour patterns that spans multiple generations in a given family and to resolve the deleterious effects of that dynamic by encouraging the subject to encounter representatives of the past and accept the factual reality of the past.
