Book Group / David King

Having recently arrived in Helsinki, I am looking to start a new book club. A group that isn’t specialised or pretentious, where just as much consideration will be made to anything from Dan Brown to George Orwell. Unfortunately my grasp of Suomi is still in its infancy, so the group will be initially conducted in English, along with the books. However in return I will happily practice English with you, in exchange for conversation in Suomi.

Meetings would most likely take place on a Saturday, some time between 10am – 6pm, at the Arkadia Bookshop. Wine, cake and chocolates are most definitely welcome. So if you want to escape the family, the weather or the world just for a few hours, well why not attend?

Whilst the book will be the main point of discussion, no subject is off limits, from photography to the pros and cons of salt liquorice.

All age groups are welcome, books will be decided by a democratic vote, so feel free to bring your suggestions and proposals to the group. Normally a title and a quick synopsis will help in choosing a novel. The group would most likely meet once or twice a month. If you don’t end up reading the book, your still welcome, you never know a fellow bookworm may inspire you to read a novel.

So if you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact me at david_michael_king@hotmail.com or through the Arkadia bookshop.

As per usual, Arkadia will be extremely grateful for a Three Euro donation per head, as per all Arkadia Events.

Once I have an idea of interest, I will contact everyone with a proposed date for the first meeting.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dave
