Friday 19.8 at 6pm: “Why Did You Come Here (to Finland)?” by Russell Snyder

Dear friend of Arkadia, You are heartily invited to “ Why Did You Come Here (to Finland)? “ by Russell Snyder on Friday 19.8 at 6pm. Russell Snyder (born in Los Angeles) came to Finland in 1982 to experience the northern Arctic ambiance of a remote nation. He had planned to stay a year, but it is now 30 years and he is still in Finland. During his long stay, he has been asked many times why he came here, and has never been able to give a satisfactory answer…except when he lied. In his talk, Snyder will explore the reasons for coming to Finland, and why he stayed. We will explore the challenges of living in Finland, and how things have changed during the last 30 years. This will be an interactive get-together, and participants will be encouraged to ask questions, give comments and tell about their own experiences. Snyder had worked as a journalist, copywriter, translator, teacher, and consultant (and even as a model). He has written several books about Finland such as The Lighter Side of Finland, The Best of Helsinki and Four Moods of Finland. He has also published a few textbooks. His latest book, Talking about Finland (by Finn Lectura) is a textbook for Finns who need or want to talk about their country. Come along for an entertaining and amusing evening, and escape the world’s serious problems for a while. The talk will be in English. All are most welcome! Warm regards, Ian
Entrance is free and green tea will be offered. A donation of €2 (or more!) to fund the event is suggested and would be most welcome.
