Dear friend of Arkadia,
You are heartily invited to Music for a While, Lute Songs and Fantasias from Renaissance Europe. A concert by David Hackston
(countertenor) and Mikko Ikäheimo (vihuela, theorbo, lute) on Monday 22.4 at 6pm at Arkadia (Nervanderinkatu 11)

Royal intrigue, love lost and found, pastoral scenes of nymphs and shepherds – these were some of the most common themes in the folk poetry of the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. It is this poetry that inspired composers from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and the Early Baroque periods. Tonight’s recital of lute songs, airs and ballads presents glimpses of musical life from across Europe with stories of Moorish kings, love denied and the sorry tale of the pretty Isabel and her missing girdle.
You are all very welcome!
Warm
regards,
Ian

Mikko Ikäheimo is one of the foremost guitarists and lutenists in Finland. In tonight’s recital he plays
not only the lute and theorbo but will also perform on the vihuela, perhaps the most popular Spanish instrument of the 15th and 16th centuries.
British countertenor David Hackston has performed widely in Finland both as a soloist and with the English Vocal Consort of Helsinki, of which he is a founding member.
