Russians hold their poetry in great esteem. Classics such as Alexander Pushkin, Anna Akhmatova and Joseph Brodsky are read, interpreted, quoted and translated by generation after generation.
But what about the poetry that is being written right now? Who is writing, what is written, for whom? These are not easy things to grasp, for the country is wide and the terrain is varied.
An expert view will be given by Darya Sukhovey, a prominent poet, critic and curator from St. Petersburg, Russia’s cultural capital.
The lecture will be given in Russian with interpretation into English or Finnish according to demand.
The lecture is organized with support from Nuoren Voiman Liitto in anticipation of the Runokuu Poetry Festival (21.8.-27.8.) which will feature performances by young Russian poets, and the Helsinki Book Fair (22.10.-25.10). The Book Fair’s main theme this year is Russian literature.
