Karelia in the Finnish-Russian Relations by Dr. Minkkinen

Dr. Minkkinen explains in his book “Karelia in Finnish-Russian Relations” the global context which sets the framework for the discussion on the restitution of the annexed Karelia and on the Finnish-Russian Relations.

Through an analysis of the demographic history of Finland, Karelia and northern parts of Europe, beginning from the Ice Age, Minkkinen demonstrates in his book that the Finno-Ugric peoples and the peoples related to the Finns are the indigenous peoples of Finland and
Karelia and thus the authentic owners of these areas.

His book also explains the border question, beginning from the 14th century, between Sweden-Finland and Novgorod-Russia, when Finland was a part of Russian Empire and after the independence of Finland. Minkkinen demonstrates that the border changes caused by the Soviet aggression were illegal and forced.

This book presents nine arguments and modes of restitution in favor of the restitution of Karelia as well as one alternative solution based on
the autonomous position of Karelia.

Minkkinen also explains why the ongoing transformation of the world order will not necessarily be peaceful. The restitution of Karelia and other annexed territories would benefit both Finland and Russia and also create a true and lasting area and space of peace.

Dr. Petri Minkkinen worked as the Research Manager of the Pro Karelia Association and works now as a researcher and is the Chair of the Science and Art Association KAKTUS.

DR. PETRI MINKKINEN – CARELIA EN LAS RELACIONES ENTRE FINLANDIA Y RUSIA

El Dr. Petri Minkkinen presentará su nuevo libro “Carelia en las relaciones entre Finlandia y Rusia” (en español y en finlandés), publicado por Karjalan Kuvalehti, la Asociación de Ciencia y Arte KAKTUS y la Asociación Pro Karelia (distribuido por Otava).

La presentación se hará parcialmente en español y en inglés y los/las participantes pueden hacer preguntas y comentarios en ambas lenguas y en finlandés.

En su libro que examina el asunto de Carelia Petri Minkkinen explica el marco de referencia mundial que crea el contexto para la
discusión acerca de la restitución de la Carelia anexada y las relaciones entre Finlandia y Rusia.

Este libro examina la historia demográfica de Finlandia, Carelia y la Europa norteña desde hace la época glacial. Minkkinen demuestra que los pueblos finougrios y los relacionados con los finlandeses son los pueblos originarios de Finlandia y Carelia, así como los auténticos dueños de estos territorios.

Esta obra precisa el asunto de la frontera, comenzando a partir del siglo XIV, entre Suecia-Finlandia y Nóvgorod-Rusia, cuando Finlandia formaba parte del Imperio ruso, y el de la Finlandia independiente. Minkkinen demuestra que los cambios fronterizos causados por la agresión soviética durante los años 1939-1944 fueron ilegales y forzados.

Este libro presenta nueve argumentos a favor de la restitución de Carelia y los modos de llevarla a cabo, así como una solución alternativa basada en la autonomía de Carelia.

Minkkinen explica porqué el cambio del orden mundial contemporáneo no será necesariamente pacífico. La restitución de la Carelia y los otros territorios anexados beneficiará tanto a Finlandia como a Rusia y creará un área y un espacio de paz verdaderas y duraderas.

Petri Minkkinen es doctor de ciencias políticas y trabajaba como jefe de investigación de la Asociación Pro Karelia y actualmente como investigador y actúa como presidente de la Asociación de Ciencia y Arte KAKTUS.
