Saturday 17.3 at 1pm at Arkadia: CRISPR, biohacking and the politics of self-experimentation with the Biosophical Society
Dear friend of Arkadia,
You are invited by the Biosophical Society to a talk: CRISPR, biohacking and the politics of self-experimentation on Saturday 17.3 at 1pm at Arkadia (Nervanderinkatu 11)
In this discussion we’ll focus on the new genetic tool used widely in the biology research and biohacking community, CRISPR: what it is, why it’s different than tools used before, and why the biohacking community has embraced it. We’ll also broach the subject of the ethics and politics of self-experimentation, which is very much related to CRISPR and biohacking.
For suggested readings for the discussion, visit the event page at https://www.facebook.com/BiosophicalSoc/events
Welcome!
Warm regards,
- A donation of €3 (or more!) to fund the bookshop is suggested and would be most welcome. Arkadia wouldn’t exist without this act of generosity. If you have no loose change or coins we gladly accept payment via Visa Electron or Mastercard etc. !
The Biosophical Society is an informal discussion group centered around philosophical questions relating to organic systems. We are interested in understanding, developing, and exchanging ideas about life sciences and other systems of inquiry (including artistic and creative systems of inquiry) through the lens of philosophy. Our discussion group is open to all, and we encourage those with differing backgrounds and from all walks of life to join in and broaden the scope of our conversation.
We will meet approximately every third Saturday of the month from 13.00-15.00. Our dates for the spring are March 17th, April 21st, and May 19th. For more information on our discussion topics, contact biosophical.society@gmail.com to subscribe to email updates or find us on Facebook. We hope you can join us!
