You are invited to Grey Violet: art, activism and queerness in contemporary Russia Saturday 22.3 at 4pm at Arkadia (Nervanderinkatu 11)

Grey Violet is a mathematician at the Russian Academy of Science. He came to Finland to participate at a conference on mathematics held at Aalto University. The decision to remain in Finland and ask for asylum here was not planned. His intention was to return to Russia.

All are welcome to express their opinions. The talk will be in Russian and English and be chaired by Oksana Chelysheva.

Grey Violet
will tell about his story and his activity, about how to be openly transgendered radical person from a radical activist art in more and more authoritarian contemporary Russia.

This will be a story about art and radical intellectual scene, about attacks and far-rights fundamentalists, about police persecutions of dissidents and queer movement which along with radical art have become one of the main “enemies of the nation”.

Grey Violet has participated in a number of art projects. He is the author of several books
