Saturday 23.7 at 4pm: Lute recital by Solmund Nystabakk
Dear friend of Arkadia,
You are heartily invited to a lute recital by Solmund Nystabakk
on Saturday 23.7 at 4pm.
It will be a recital of pieces for renaissance lute from Robert Dowland’s famous book ”A Varietie of Lute Lessons.”
Published by Thomas Adams in London in 1610, ”A Varietie of Lute Lessons” is one of the most important printed sources of lute music known today. Along with chapters on how to play the lute, the book contains, in the publisher’s own words, a collection of ”Fantasies, Pavins, Galliards, Almaines, Corantoes, and Volts: Selected out of the best approved AUTHORS, as well beyond the Seas as of our owne Country.”
In his recital, Solmund Nystabakk will perform selected pieces from the book, along with comments and anecdotes on the music and its background.
