Maarit Mustonen: “Maarit Mustonen”

The work “Maarit Mustonen” is a group meeting of people whose name is Maarit Mustonen.

When I called them, most of them started to laugh.

I had a coffee with Maarit Mustonen who lives in Kuopio.
She told me she has a brother whose name is Marko.
I told her I have sister whose name is Marjo.

There is a wish to magically find something common and recognizable in people who have the same name. When we meet, even the language loses its ability to individualize.

– But what if meeting them makes you lose your mind?

The work is a part of a project that examines the relationship between name and identity by bringing together methods of visual arts and onomastic.

Maarit Mustonen” is supported by docent, senior lecturer in Finnish language Terhi Ainiala (Teachers’ Academy, University of Helsinki). Thank you so much!

Special thanks: Maarit Mustonen, Maarit Mustonen, Maarit Mustonen, Maarit Mustonen, Maarit Mustonen, Maarit Mustonen, Maarit Mustonen and Maarit Mustonen.
