The achievements of culture in times of crisis

This seminar presents the productions of contemporary artists burdened by depression and lack of artistic quality. Feverish and fed up with modernity, they interpret, in their own peculiar ways, the vicissitudes of present-day culture imposed by the established order.

The unsustainable cultural model based on artistic quality is requiring multinationals to turn to celebrities such as Enrique Iglesias, Paris Hilton and Sponge Bob to secure their businesses.

The artists participating in the event assess the method of autogestión (self-government) as a solution to the situation, proposing a revolution that does away with mass media and mainstream in order to facilitate a return to the boring and mediocre reality – a reality lost long ago to the hands of savage capitalism.

– Reflections and readings by Marcos Almeyda, director of the board
– Concert: ‘Si no hay amor, que no haya nada’ (If there be no love, let there be nothing at all)  Trilce, the last Chimú princess, sings Violeta Parra’s songs about the necessity and impossibility of love
– Tango performance by Fernando Waisberg

Come and watch as these musicians, dancers and writers blindly search for artistic coherence at Arkadia International Bookshop (Nervanderinkatu 11) on October 6, at 4 p.m. The event is a part of Alegría-festivaali 2012, organized by Agencia Latina -yhdistys ry with the support of Helsinki City Cultural Office.
