Description:
In this programme, Maria and Eduard will focus on popular Russian songs that were performed on stage at the beginning of the Communist era, in the 1920-30s. It was a very special period in Russian/Soviet culture when popular music was relatively free from the official communist ideology. In this concert, you will hear a number of light music masterpieces, including passionate art songs, Gypsy romances, foxtrotes, and tangos performed by Maria Konoshenko, a Moscow-based mezzo soprano, and Eduard Galper (piano), who now resides in Helsinki, but grew up in Petrozavodsk, Karelia.
