The Helsinki Conservatory Foundation arranges the national Helsinki Lied–competition 26-28.10.2018. The competition is the only Finnish competition for lied duos. The aim of the competition is to raise awareness of lied as a vital art form of classical music, and to show the skills of lied students every three years. In this concert soprano Aleksiina Turtiainen and pianist Hanna Jokinen will perform their complete competition repertory for the first time.
Aleksiina Turtiainen (1992) graduated as a musician at the Conservatory Lahti. Since 2015 she studies voice at the Tampere University of applied sciences with Ulla Raiskio. She has participated master classes of Elisabeth Werres and Ulrike Sonntag, among others. Turtiainen has performed as a soloist in lied- and opera concerts and churcs music works. In 2018 she did the first public performance of the role of princess in Tuomas Turriagos fairytale opera Prinsessa Papupata. She has also sung in various choirs, like in the choir of the opera of Tampere and Savonlinna opera festival. In 2018 she started her studies at the Sibelius Academy with Outi Kähkönen.
Hanna Jokinen (1988) started her studies towards professional piano playing at the Institute of Orivesi 2008. After that she graduated at the Conservatory of Helsinki (musician 2012) and Tampere University of applied sciences (bachelor of music and piano instruction 2017). She also studied at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig in Germany. In november she starts her second year of master studies of piano performance in Verona Italy, maestro Adriano Ambrosini as her professor. Other important teachers for her have been Antti Hotti, Alexander Meinel and Risto Kyrö. She won a concert price in the Pianoaura-competition in Turku 2016. She performs actively both solo and with her numerous chamber music groups.
Turtiainen and Jokinen studied lied as a duo at the Tampere University of applied sciences 2016-2017. During that time, they performed actively around Tampere at the events of the school. In august 2017 they gave their first full concert in the church of Kerimäki. After that they have rarely been in the same city, but will now nevertheless participate in the Helsinki Lied competition.
