Dear friend of Arkadia,

You are invited to a lecture and screening celebrating 80 years of Popeye the Sailor in cartoons by Veikko Suvanto on Thursday 18.7 at 6pm at Arkadia (Nervanderinkatu 11)

The occasion for the event is the 80th anniversary of Popeye’s first appearance in an animated cartoon (July 14), as well as the 130th anniversary of the birth of Max Fleischer (July 19), the cartoons’ producer.

The event will feature a talk on the origins of Popeye and the history of the Fleischer Studio by Veikko Suvanto, followed by a screening of some vintage Popeye shorts from the 1930s.

The talk will be in English or Finnish, depending on the wishes of the audience. Questions can be posed in both languages as well. The cartoons will be shown in their original versions, without subtitles.

You are all most welcome.

Warm regards,

Ian
