Dear friend of Arkadia,

You are invited to “Opera? What’s that?” on Thursday 23.5 at 6pm at Arkadia (Nervanderinkatu 11).

A light-hearted evening outlining what opera is with discussions and performances by members of the cast of Mozart’s The Magic Flute (Entire opera showing at the end of May).

Presenting the opera are producer and singer (soprano, Pamina role) Emili Losier, director Anselmi Hirvonen, Core Rep (pianist) Laura Kivikoski and singer (tenor, Tamino role) Petri Vesa. There will be props, costumes and make up pictures for you to see close up, as well as musical excerpts from the opera.

Opera is such an interesting and touching art form that it has thrived for over 400 years and continues to take peoples’ breath away in our modern era. But how can this be when we have things like television and ipods at our disposal? Could it be the visual effects, the power of the human voice, the story? Or perhaps the overpowering of so many different art forms bunched up together into a living movie. Becca Rader
describes it wonderfully in her short 2 minute blog ‘What’s so great about opera? Well… everything!’
