Thursday 29.9 at 6pm: ‘How to Survive the Finnish Winter’ by Russell Snyder

Dear friend of Arkadia, You are warmly welcome to ‘How to Survive the Finnish Winter’ by Russell Snyder on Thursday 29.9 at 6pm. Russell Snyder, who comes from the sunny and warm climate of Southern California, has spent the last 29 winters in the dark and cold climate of Finland. How has he managed? Why do some people hate the winter and others thrive or at least cope in those conditions? Welcome all! Warm regards, Ian www.arkadiabookshop.fiEntrance is free and green tea will be offered. A donation of €2 (or more!) to fund the event is suggested and would be most welcome! How to Survive the Finnish Winter by Russell Snyder Snyder will talk about various activities and methods that have helped him get through the long and dark season. What works and what doesn’t? What should you do and what shouldn’t you do? What kind of attitude do you need? This will be an interactive get-together, and participants will be encouraged to ask questions, give comments and tell about their own experiences. Snyder had worked as a journalist, copywriter, translator, teacher and consultant. He has written several books about Finland such as The Lighter Side of Finland, The Best of Helsinki and Four Moods of Finland. He has also published a few textbooks. His latest book, Talking about Finland (by Finn Lectura) is a textbook for Finns who need or want to talk about their country. Come along (Finns and foreigners) for an entertaining and amusing evening, and bring your ideas and suggestions. Let’s make the upcoming winter great…good…okay… or, anyway, tolerable.
