You are invited by the Discussing World Politics group to join a discussion on the contemporary political situation in Brazil on Thursday 5.12 at 6pm at Arkadia (Nervanderinkatu 11)
The presenters will be Teivo Teivainen, Professor of World Politics at the University of Helsinki, and Leonardo Custodio, researcher at the University of Tampere and member of the BRICS media project.

Discussing World Politics group will raise the following questions:
– Do the protests in Brazil represent democratization from below or an attempt at dislodging the political legitimacy of the ruling elite?
– What is the position of Brazil among the Latin American ‘Left Tide’?
– Does da Silva’s Workers’ Party truthfully represent the interests of workers or has the pressure of political power meant an ideological transformation of the party?
