Tuesday 11.5 at 6pm: Gerald Steinmetz will discuss his recent book “How to Talk about Banking and Finance”.

Dear friend of Arkadia, Welcome to the bookshop on Tuesday 11.5 at 6pm! Gerald Steinmetz will discuss his recent book “How to Talk about Banking and Finance”. Gerald Steinmetz is an Australian who first came to Scandinavia to teach English. He was immediately struck by the stress laid on Grammar and Syntax up here in the North. This provides a bonanza for publishers, but puts the student in a straitjacket that makes free expression unlikely. Gerald earlier had studied music and knew that intonation, the “tune” of a phrase, is the magic key to interpretation. He set about producing a series of books showing that only a study of the “melodies” sounding in the language of your speciality will guarantee you commanding English. On Tuesday 11th of May he will discuss his recent book “How to Talk about Banking and Finance“. Wait a minute. Wasn’t the Credit Crunch brought about by opaque language?” It will be a very pleasant and instructive occasion, join us! Warm regards, Ian www.arkadiabookshop.fi – Entrance is free and green tea will be served.
