Miten tutkia erilaisia yksilöjen ja yhteisöjen elämän rajoja tämän päivän urbaaneissa ympäristöissä tieteen ja taiteen keinoin? Mitä rajoja tutkijan/taiteilijan on silloin ylitettävä, tai kunnioitettava? Entä kannattaako tieteen ja taiteen välisiä rajoja myös vaalia? Onko rajojen ylittäminen aina tarpeen tai edes viisasta?
Näistä teemoista ovat Tiuku-klubilla keskustelemassa helsinkiläinen dokumentaristi Janne Laiho sekä sosiologi ja runoilija Kaisa Kuurne. Keskustelun juontaa media-antropologi Johanna Sumiala. Illan aikana nähdään myös Janne Laihon dokumentti “Rajat”, joka liikkuu nuorten parissa Helsingissä ja Lontoossa.

Boundaries!

How to study urban lives of people and their communities in today’s world of countless visible and invisible boundaries? What can scholars and artists offer to this analysis? What kinds of boundaries need to be overcome during the process? Also, what kind of boundaries should be respected? What would we benefit (if anything) from maintaining boundaries and keeping academic and artistic ways of approaching reality separate?
December Tiuku-club will address these issues. Invited speakers include documentary film maker Janne Laiho, sociologist and poet Kaisa Kuurne, and media anthropologist Johanna Sumiala, who will host the event. The venue will show a short documentary “Boundaries” made by Janne Laiho.
