” If Music Be The Food of Love” – music by Henry Purcell and contemporaries

Performed by Meeri Pulakka (voice), Anna Pulakka (baroque cello) and Eugenie van der Meulen (harpsichord)

The words that have been set to music by Henry Purcell (1659-1695) are centuries old but span all ages and all corners of the human experience. Love, sorrow, loss, the joy of a first kiss, the desire for peace: come to our concert to have your listening soul be moved. Keyboard music by Purcell’s contemporaries provides a further atmosphere of the time and allows the mind to wander and imagine the merrymaking of Kings at their Masques and the sounds of the streets of London.

“If music be the food of love, sing on, sing on till I am fill’d with joy”

Soprano Meeri Pulakka sings everything from melodious Early Music to state-of-the-art contemporary pieces, always with her wonderful voice and great stage-presence. Her generous and kind spirit makes her a joy to be with.

“… The merry strings of Orpheus” Are the domain of cellist Anna Pulakka. She provides the musical and emotional foundation of our ensemble: she ensures the bass line has sonorous sound and melodic line, and a level of calm and security at all times.

“On ev’ry side the Charming sound does from the hollow Woods rebound.”

Harpsichordist Eugenie van der Meulen brings cascading arpeggio´s and resounding chords to further enhance and support the music. She can be counted upon to find almost anything funny and loves to talk to the audience.

“What magic has victorious love!”

The three musicians met at the Sibelius Academy where all three are currently enrolled. They became vast friends who love to both work and hang around together.

“Now that the sun hath veil’d his light… Then to thy rest, O my soul!”

You are very welcome to end your day with us in an informal celebration of music that is guaranteed to pull at your heartstrings and to make you leave the bookshop filled with joy.

We look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Meeri, Anna and Eugenie
