Life Science, Art & Philosophy: Opening of the Biosophical Society, Autumn 2015
Description:
The Biosophical Society is a small and informal group focused on discussing and contemplating the organic through the eyes of philosophy, and philosophy through the eyes of the organic. We are also interested in understanding, developing and exchanging ideas from a variety of crafts relating to organic systems, such as life sciences, cooking, gardening, social sciences, cleaning, medicine, farming, spirituality, art, and many more.
Until now, the group was largely comprised of biologists, and we have focused on methods in life sciences; but now we move our sessions to the city center in order to invite people of all walks of life to provide their unique perspectives, and opening and broadening our discussion to greater scopes. It doesn’t matter what you do or who you are – you have a perspective of life as well – you are, after all, a living system with years of experience in living in a variety of organic systems!
This B.S. session will be an introductory session of the Biosophical Society, where we can get to know each other and get information on future B.S. meetings; we will all introduce ourselves and our interests, and share a taste of our own Biosophy. We will also have a broad introductory discussion to help us start planning and scheduling meetings for the semester. Our plan is to have weekly meeting on (Tuesdays, 18-20:00, most likely at the Natural History Museum) alternating between theoretical discussions on odd weeks and practical work on even weeks. If you like what you experience you will be welcome to add your name to our mailing list and be invited to future meetings.
