‘Cast a cold eye’ (The life and poetry of W.B.Yeats) performed by actor Frank Boyle
The entertainment traces the life of the poet from around the Irish 1916 Rising until his death in France in 1939. The Irish poet Yeats was possibly the most profound and influential poet writing in the English language during the early twentieth century. The presentation uses the poetry of Yeats and also biographic writings to bring to life the thoughts and emotions of the poet towards the latter part of his life. Yeats is brought to the audience as a living, breathing and passionate poet speaking to his most intimate friends.
The show covers his time during the 1916 Irish Rebellion through the War of Independence and The Civil War and his reflection as an older man on his Nobel Prize and becoming a Senator of the new Irish Free State and the poets principle concerns and reflections as he neared the end of his life. A brilliant selection of some of the poets finest works is performed with passion and skill.
