We welcome everybody to the discussion & screening of the movie: The role of Independent media in the Zapatista movement in Mexico

The recent meeting in Chiapas between the National Indigenous Congress and the Zapatistas communities exposed the crucial role of the independent media on the social movements.

After the murder of the Zapatista teacher José Luis Solís López (Galeano) at the Caracol “La Realidad”, the news from private and mass mediate have been grossly distorted about documenting the constant paramilitary aggressions against Zapatistas communities.

The absence of ethics about the information handling is just an example about the manipulation and control of information that politicians and media owners exercise in order to limit the freedom of speech. As a result of the repression over public media, different collectives, organizations, the autonomous communities have started a stronger campaign in different regions in order to strengthen the network of independent journalism.

We invite everyone to attend and share their experiences about the construction of independent media between collective, organization and independent journalism projects.
