Uusi Helsinki? Det nya Helsingfors? Changing Helsinki?
www.nemokustannus.fi/kirjat/uusi-helsinki/
Helsinki is changing. Does what’s happening inspire delight, disgust, sorrow or enthusiasm? Eeva Berglund and Cindy Kohtala are academic researchers who love Helsinki and who wanted to explore the process more closely. They invited people who are occupied in caring for and developing the city to share their experiences.
The book looks at past and present urban change in Helsinki in three languages, Finnish, Swedish and English.
Architect and writer Pia Ilonen, who steered Lasipalatsi to its new glory in the late 1990s, will join the editors to talk about why it’s important that we pay attention to the changes going on, whether they are promoted by the City or by independent actors like the Amos Anderson Museum, which is behind the plans for Lasipalatsi’s next rebirth.
