NGO Friends of Western Sahara in Finland

Länsi-Saharan Ystävät Suomessa on kansalaisjärjestö, joka pyrkii lisäämään tietoa sahrawien kulttuurista ja heidän tilanteestaan. Teemme yhteistyötä kansalaisjärjestöjen kanssa niin kotimaassa kuin ulkomaillakin sekä edistämme länsisaharalaisten ja suomalaisten kulttuurien välistä yhteyttä.

Toimintamme koostuu tiedottamisesta, tapahtumien järjestämisestä ja tapahtumissa näkymisestä. Olemme tuoneet sahrawiaktivisteja sekä taiteilijoita Suomeen ja järjestäneet ohjelmaa heidän ympärilleen. Julkaisemme kirjoituksia aiheesta sekä keräämme rahaa tempauksin sekä
länsisaharalaisia tuotteita ja aiheeseen liittyvää materiaalia myymällä. Rahalla olemme muun muassa lähettäneet suomalaisia lääkäreitä työskentelemään pakolaisleireille.

Friends of Western Sahara in Finland is a non-governmental organization whose aim is to raise awareness among Finnish society of a largely unknown culture: the Sahrawi. We also work to bring up societal discussion about the situation of Sahrawis in diverse locations such as the territories occupied by Morocco and the refugee camps. We want to cooperate and create social bondage between Saharawi and Finnish Culture.

Our NGO was founded in March 2012 and since then we have participated in multiple festivals such as PAX, Maailma Kylässä, Faces festival… We work also to bring Sahrawi artists, activist as well as documentary films to film festivals around the country in order to promote Sahrawi culture in Finland.
