Wednesday 8.8 at 6pm at New Arkadia: An evening with Alexey Karlov and other residents of Psycho Neurological Nursing Home #20, Moscow
Dear friend of Arkadia,
You are heartily invited a talk with Alexey Karlov, four other residents of Psycho Neurological Nursing Home #20, Moscow and friends on Wednesday 8.8 at 6pm at New Arkadia (Dagmarinkatu 5).
Alexey Karlov, six other disabled people in wheel-chairs and seven volunteers will stay exactly a week in Helsinki. It is their first visit abroad. It has taken them three long and rather painful years to fund their trip and navigate through Byzantine red tape and unimaginably perplexing difficulties.
Alexey Karlov suffered cerebral paralysis and has been consigned to special nursing homes in Moscow since his birth. He has faced innumerable challenges in his life but, just as his friends, he has faced adversity with extraordinary and frankly disconcerting courage. He has a written a yet unpublished book and like his fellow-visitors is extremely productive artistically.
The seven have been greatly inspired by the work of Finnish MP Kalle Könkkölä.
Alexey, six disabled friends of his and seven Russian volunteers who help them go around would be delighted to meet all sorts of people in Finland. A country they have come to admire greatly and they visit for the first time. It also their first visit abroad. They would like to exchange views, display their artworks and share a good time!
The talk will be mainly in Russian and English but questions can be asked in other languages as well.
Join us!
Warm regards,
Ian
